Camp Squanto
Plymouth, Massachusetts
On July 2, 2020, Mayflower Council BSA, the operator of Camp Squanto, announced that Massachusetts was not allowing overnight summer camps in 2020. As a result, they cancelled this summer camp. Our original plan had been to attend sumer camp at J. N. Webster. As a back-up to this, we are planning a troop camping trip.
As our second plan for this year's summer camp (thank you, COVID-19), Troop 54 will attend summer camp at Camp Squanto, our first time as a troop at their summer camp (a couple of us went there as provisional campers in 2010 and 2011). This camp is out-of-council for us as it is in Mayflower Council. Our Scouts will stay in the usual wall tents, except only family members may share a tent, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Each Scout will have a cot. Meals will be prepared by the camp and delivered to the camp site. Our camp site will be determined later.
A lot will be different this year, due to Massacshuetts COVID-19 regulations. See their FAQ.
Camp Guide - The Mayflower Council 2020 Camp Guide provides many of the operational details of the summer camp, including the camp's packing list.
Youth Registration Fee is as follows:
|
The "twist" on the deadlines listed above is that the camp has set an overall capacity of 250. When they hit that number for the week, they will stop accepting registrations. Thus, earlier is better.
Activities at camp include merit badge sessions, patrol activities and camp activities (such as camp fires). See the Summer Camp Schedule for the available merit badges, most of which will be offered in the camp site.
Badges earned during Summer Camp will be presented at a Court of Honor in September.
Details on what to pack will be posted later.
The camp has set up arrival and departure to avoid gatherings of people. The Troop will be assigned arrival and departure times. Each Scout is to be dropped off and picked up by his family. Upon arrival, each Scout will have his temperature checked before exiting the vehicle. Then, the Scout and his gear are left on the field next to the road and the vehicle leaves. Similar for the adult participants except that the vehicle is parked.
