Troop 54 participated in "The Event: Discover the Heart of Scouting in New England", the largest event the Mohegan Council has run at Treasure Valley in recent memory.
Reportedly, over 1000 people were registered. Boy Scout troops camped jamboree style in Jamboree Field. Cub Scout packs camped in a few of the camp sites, and Venture
crews camped at the new Siple camp site.
Troop 54 had eight Boy Scouts and three ledaers participating.
For our new Pack 54, this was their first camping trip ever, with four Scouts and four parents at The Event. The Webelos Scout and parent camped with the troop, and two of the
Cub Scouts camped in Pine Acres.
The first night, the temperature dropped to around 25 °F, coating the camp site with frost. Saturday was sunny and relatively warm. The event mostly consisted of stations to
visit. ASM MacNeal ran a geocaching station. The ranges (BB guns and archery) were the most popular stations by far. Troop 114 put on an impressive camp cooking demonstration.
The Sherriff's Department had its mobile command center on hand for tours. The COPE course was open for some climbing and team-building activities. Other activities included
rowing, orienteering, an indoor maze and a catapult.
On Sunday, we woke up to a light rain that lasted through making and eating breakfast and packing up. All of the participants enjoyed The Event. This was the troop's 46th
consecutive month with at least one overnight camping trip.
