Rafting TripFriday, May 23 - |
Troop 54 traveled to Charlemont, Massachusetts for our May Rafting Trip. We camped at Mohawk Trail State Forest campground. Group Site 4 consisted of three regular sites adjacent to the restroom facility, which included showers and a dish washing sink. Our water supply was about 10 feet from our cooking area, making this a luxury spot for us. For the main event, we drove the short distance to CrabApple Whitewater, where we got equipped with wet suits, helmets, flotation devices and oars. Then, we were off by bus to the Fife Brook section of the Deerfield River. With the water flow reportedly running well above normal, our trip included Class I, II and II rapids. We all got wet, but none of us fell into the river on this trip. We stopped for a picnic lunch after the largest of the rapids. Along the way, we had a water fight in which the boats threw buckets of water at each other. As has become our norm this season, the weather was unseasonably cool, with temperatures mostly in the 50s. Periods of rain during the rafting and at the camp site kept things moist. Scouts Kevin Froimson, Gavin MacNeal, Brett Most, Anthony Olivencia, Xavier Parker, Peter Servatius, Andrew Tran, Nathan Tran and Jakob Tran participated in this camping trip. The participating leaders were Joshua Froimson, Keith MacNeal, Gregory Rosen and Nathan Schulzrinne. The camp cooking included such items as pasta with Italian sausage and chicken goulash with gnocchi. This was our troop's sixty-fifth consecutive month with at least one overnight camping trip. |
