Event Description

This year, Troop 54 will attend summer camp at Camp Wanocksett. The last time we attended summer camp there, in 2017, it was an out-of-council camp for us; following the merger to form the Heart of New England Council, it is an in-council camp. Our Scouts will stay in two-person canvas wall tents on wooden platforms; each Scout will have a cot. Meals will be prepared by the camp and served in their dining hall. We will be in the Lower Iroquois Site.

Registration

• Youth registration fee can be paid through an installment plan or a single payment as follows:

  Installment Plan Payment Due Date $130 2/26/19 $130 3/26/19 $120 4/23/19

  Single Payment Plan Pay $380 by February 26, or Pay $405 by April 23, or Pay $460 after April 23

• Addtional Leader Fee - Leaders beyond those planned and needed by the Troop pay their own $100 additional leader fee through the Troop.
• Annual Health and Medical Record - each youth or adult member staying at camp one night or more must submit this form (Parts A, B and C) at or before the summer camp prep meeting on June 25. It is recommended that you keep the original and submit a copy. Note that this requires a physical exam within the year before camp (with doctor signature) and a copy of both sides of your medical insurance card. If your doctor did not complete Part C, transcribe information from the doctor-provided record onto Part C. Be sure to fill out the attached "Permission to Possess & Use Epinephrine Auto-Injector and/or Asthma Inhaler" if applicable.
• Campership Application - A campership is financial aid for camp. An application must be submitted by April 1, 2019.
• To stay overnight at camp with the troop, an adult must be a registered member of the BSA.

Program

Activities at camp include merit badge sessions, patrol activities and camp activities (such as camp fires).

Most of the merit badge information is included in the Leader's Guide. The camp has changed a number of its merit badge offerings this year. Separate merit badge information will be available later. Scouts are expected to sign up for their badges in advance. The camp commits to giving every Scout his first merit badge choice (although not necessarily at the chosen time).

Badges earned during Summer Camp will be presented at a Court of Honor in September.

What to Pack

See our summer camp Packing List. To emphasize a few items to bring:

• Full uniform (shirt, pants, socks, neckerchief, neckerchief slide, hat, belt) - we will wear these daily for evening meals and assemblies.
• Drink mix packets - everyone needs to avoid becoming dehydrated. If you have difficulty drinking water, bring something to mix into it.
• Flip flops - to wear in the shower. It is probably a good idea not to touch the floor.

Travel

Departure - We will meet at Epworth at 11:15 AM on Sunday to pack our gear into the trailer. We need to arrive at the camp at 1:00 PM. The drive to the camp takes about 70 minutes, so we will leave Epworth at 11:45 AM. Have lunch before coming to the church or bring a bag lunch to eat at the camp (nothing that requires cooking). Our first camp meal will be dinner.

Return - Our estimated return to Epworth is 12:00 PM on Saturday.

Late arrivals at camp - Advise the Scoutmaster in advance. The troop is expected to show up together.

Family Night

Family members can visit on Wednesday evening during our week of camp. If you plan to attend this, you purchase tickets ($8.00 – Adults / $6.00 – Children), either at the Trading Post (expect a long line) or on-line in advance but during the week we are at camp. Visitors will drive to the camp on Upper Jaffrey Road in NH and should expect to be at the camp 6:00-9:00 PM, leaving just after the callout ceremony. Program for this:

• 6:00pm – Flag Ceremony
• 6:10pm – Barbeque Dinner (Buffet style)
• 7:00pm – Songfest in Amphitheatre
• 8:00pm – Order of the Arrow Callout Ceremony in OA field

Care Packages

You can purchase care packages for Scouts and leaders on-line - just be sure to place your order while we are at camp (not in advance).
