13 Falls Backpacking Trip

Event Description

For our August trip, Troop 54 returns to White Mountain National Forest. Starting at the Lincoln Woods Trailhead, We will hike in the first day on Wilderness Trail and the Franconia Trail to 13 Falls, an estimated 8.7 miles. The second day, we will hike the Lincoln Brook Trail to Black Pond, an estimated 6.9 miles. The last day, will will return to our starting point the same way we hiked in, an estimated 5.5 miles. This will be a partial loop trail.

Registration

• Permission Slip - Each participating Scout must submit this to the Scoutmaster by August 16.
• Event registration fee - pay by August 16 (includes food for youth only):
     Youth - $51 (online payment)
     Adult - $16 (online payment)
• Annual Health and Medical Record - Each participant must have submitted this record within the previous year and no later than August 16. This trip requires only Parts A and B, including copy of insurance card (both sides). A medical exam is not required.
• Adults - In accordance with a BSA rule that became effective September 1, 2023, "All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered in an adult fee required position as listed or as an adult program participant."

Packing

Use our Backwoods Camping List to ensure you pack the needed items and see our Personal Camping Gear page for descriptions of most of the items needed and for how to use the checklist. You will pack your stuff in either an external frame or internal frame backpack (the big kind). Specific items to bring:

• Water bottles (2)
• Full uniform (as for just about any event) - wear this.
• Food - Each patrol should plan to provide 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches (on the trail) and 2 dinners. Participants bring your own drinks and food for snacks.

Travel

• Meet at the Epworth United Methodist Church parking lot at 7:30 AM Friday for departure by 7:45 AM.
• Travel to the Lincoln Woods Trailhead will take approximately 2-1/2 hours.
• Estimated return to the church is 4:00 PM Sunday (+/- 2 hours). We will call family members as our timing becomes more clear.
