West Point Camporee

Scoutmasters Council - emblem from an earlier year

Friday, April 11 -
Sunday, April 13, 2025
United States Military Academy
West Point, New York

Event Description

Troop 54 is participating in the 61st West Point Scoutmasters' Council Invitational Camporee for our second time; our last time there was in 2016. Participating units were selected by lottery. This is a jamboree-sized camporee, typically hosting several thousand Scouts and Scouters. It is run by cadets from the United States Military Academy with high quality activities.

The West Point Camporee is America’s premier leadership camporee. Their events, which range from fire building and knot tying all the way to Swiss Seats and Army Combatives, test participants' expertise, leadership, teamwork, determination, and fitness. These events are designed to increase every participants' confidence and competence as young leaders. Over the three days, participants will be able to interact with West Point cadets who will lead, teach, and inspire them to push themselves to greatness.

We are signed up as a "mechanized" unit which means that the Troop will park offsite and be bussed to Lake Frederick. An adult from the Troop drive the trailer to the campground after the troop has arrived on the bus. Once offloaded, the trailer will be taken back to the offsite parking. We will hike approximately 0.5 miles from the bus and trailer drop off location to our campsite. The offsite parking is well ouside walking distance from the campground.

It is strongly recommended to put your name and phone number on objects, especiallly outerwear, cell phones, day packs and hats. Specific items to bring:

  • Bag lunch for Friday on the way to the camporee.
  • Wet weather clothing.
  • Long pants - Be prepared in case the weather is cold at night.
