Ethan Allen Fall CamporeeFriday, October 4 - |
Troop 54 traveled to Benson, Vermont with Troop 7054 for our first visit to Camp Sunrise, a camp operated by the Green Mountain Council BSA. The drive was 3-1/2 hours each way. This was the 28th Scout camp where Troop 54 has camped since 2006 (see our map of these camps). We camped in the Abenaki tent site, which was very flat with nice, mowed grass. Troop 7054 won 3rd place in the cooking competition with their camp-made tropical flavor ice cream. They also won 3rd place in for Heraldry, most likely because of their Pink Panther themed shield. We had a total of twenty-one participants - five Troop 54 Scouts, nine Troop 7054 Scouts (100% of their current members at the time) and seven leaders from both troops. Each troop ran some sort of game in its site, and the Scouts traveled around to play the games. The camporee organizers served a nice lunch featuring roasted chicken wings for all of the participants in the dining hall. Both troops were able to launch projectiles (squeeze toy fruits) from the catapults they had constructed. Troop 54 made a basic catapult and overcame a couple of part failures. Troop 7054 made a trebuchet that looked really well-designed and built. See video by K. MacNeal of one launch. Troop 7054 won 3rd place in the cooking competition with their camp-made tropical flavor ice cream. They also won 3rd place in for Heraldry, most likely because of their Pink Panther themed shield. The weather cool and clear, dropping to a few degrees below freezing in the early morning on Saturday. This was our one hundred thirtieth consecutive month with at least one overnight camping trip. |
