Buck Hill Patch

Troop 54 returned to Buck Hill Scout Reservation, tent camping in the Pulver Shelter and Tent Area. We had last visited this camp in August 2017. The shelter was next to the camp's parking area and included picnic tables and electric lighting; this minimized the usual moving of gear.

We had for youth and two adult participants on this trip.

Temperatures on this trip ranged from about 19°F when we got up on Saturday to the mid 30s. This trip had been planned as a replacement for a Klondike Derby that was canceled two weeks earlier due to extreme cold and wind; it was much warmer than that weekend.

Although another troop had planned to camp at Buck Hill, they canceled their trip due to illness. As a result, we had the 1600 acre camp to ourselves. One of the campmasters noted that Narragansett Council is selling Cub World, located on another part of the reservation.

Our main activity on Saturday was learning some lashings. In doing this, the Scouts built a tripod and a small tower. We also took a hike around part of the camp, seeing some camp sites along Wakefield Pond.

This was our 170th consecutive month with at least one overnight camping trip.
