Troop 54 camped at the Chippewa site with Pack 54. Troop 54
members manned the Forestry activity badge station at the event with ASM Brian Keevan. The in-site activity featured
non-stop cooking. Saturday's breakfast was Huevos Rancheros (fried egg on corn tortilla with sauce on top). For this, food
prep started at 6:00 AM. Lunch was turkey meatballs in BBQ sauce cooked in a Dutch oven over the camp fire. Dinner
was chicken grilled over the camp fire and then cooked in a Dutch oven with salsa sauce and cheese.
Sunday's breakfast was to be eggs and bacon with toast. We cooked 3 pounds of bacon in a Dutch oven, which went fine until firewood was piled on top of the oven. The bacon fat vaporzed, causing jets of fire to stream out of the oven. In the end all that was left was a sticky black tar. The Scouts seemed to find this to be the most entertaining part of the weekend. Watch the video. |
