Camping Waste

Keep in mind that anything you don't eat or burn will need to be packed back out. Some tips to minimize that garbage bag:

• Plastic should not be burned in a camp fire, so if you really want to avoid cleaning plates, use paper (not Styrofoam) plates. Then, just throw that mess into the fire pit while it is burning.
• You won't want to take too much canned food as it is quite heavy, but when you do use a can, burn it clean in the fire before adding the can to your garbage bag.
• Scrape any leftover food into the fire - this will lighten your load and avoid attracting animals.
• The longer your trip (and the more meals), the better weight benefit you will get from using re-usable plates instead of disposable ones.
