Science Centers
These science centers may be of interest to Scouts BSA members (ages 11-17):
Massachusetts
- Ecotarium - Lots of educational
material and some live animals. It is right here in Worcester. The trail around their lower pond is a 30 minute walk.
- Harvard Museum of Natural History - Home of the Glass Flowers exhibit, an
amazimg geology collection and other collections, at Harvard University in
Cambridge, MA (approximately 1 hour from Worcester, MA).
- New England Aquarium
- Located in Boston, MA (about one hour from Worcester, MA).
- Mystic Aquarium
- Located in Boston, MA (about one hour from Worcester, MA).
- Museum of Science
- Located in Boston, MA (about one hour from Worcester, MA).
- Sustainability Hub - this National Grid facility, which opened in October 2013, showcases a variety of
electricity-saving and green technologies
for the home and provides a great setting in which to learn about them. Normal hours are 9 AM - 4 PM, Monday-Friday, and groups can
arrange in advance for tours at other times. Located at 912 Main Street in Worcester, MA. Contact via E. Mail at

- Springfield
Science Museum - This is one of four museums you can visit together in Springfield, MA.

New Hampshire
- McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center - Focus is
on astronomy, aviation, Earth and space sciences. Located in Concord, NH.
- Seabrook Station
Science & Nature Center - learn about how power is produced from nuclear energy and see the environment around the Seabrook
Station on their nature trail. Located in Seabrook, Hampton and Hampton Falls, NH (approximately
1.5 hours from Worcester, MA).
- SEE Science Center
- dedicated to the promotion of science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning. Located in
Manchester, NH.
- Weather Discovery Center - Explore
the science of climate and weather through fun, interactive exhibits. Located at the Mount Washington Observatory in North Conway Village, NH
(approximately 3.5 hours from Worcester, MA).
ASTC
- Find more science centers though the Association of Science - Technology Centers.
The science centers listed above also interest Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5, ages 6-10). For
younger adventurers, look for your nearest "discovery center".
