On November 22, 6 Scouts, 1 sister and 4 adults gathered at Epworth for our annual event to bake pies for charities. We made all of the pie dough with all of the pie filings being canned. At one point, it looked like there was more flour on the counters than in the pies.
Even starting the large oven at 4:25 PM, it still heated too slowly and never quite got up to temperature. Due to the slow throughput at the ovens, we only made 37 pies this year. As in recent years, 1/3 of the boxed and labeled pies went to the Veterans Inc shelter around the corner. The rest went to the food pantry at Friendly House where they were getting ready for a busy day providing meals for Thanksgiving.
