Summer Camp 2011

Camp with Troop 54

Troop 54 will attend summer camp at Treasure Valley in 2011. This year, we return for a second year to the Chippewa site, near the Magee Center. Our week at camp runs Sunday, July 10 through Friday, July 15 (Week 2). Scouts may optionally stay until Saturday morning.

Camp fees and forms:

• Early pay fee: $340 - the deadline is April 26 (paid to Troop 54 - we need to get it to the Council by May 2).
• Regular fee: $390 - due June 21 (at the last regular troop meeting before camp).
• Annual Health and Medical Record - must be submitted for each Youth or Adult member at or before the June 28 parents meeting. It is recommended that you keep the original and submit a copy. Note that this requires a physical exam within the last year (with doctor signature) and a copy of both sides of insurance card.
• Parental Authorization Form - Each Youth member attending Treasure Valley during the 2011 summer season must have a signed Parental Authorization form.
• OTC Med Form - This form is required to dispense any Over The Counter medications to a Youth member.
• Campership Application - Parents needing financial assistance for your Youth member to attend any of the Treasure Valley Summer Camp programs need to submit a completed Campership Application by April 15.
• CORI Form - Adults who plan to come to camp must have submitted a CORI form to the Council within the previous year, not later than three (3) weeks before camp.
• SORI Form - Adults who plan to come to camp must have submitted a SORI form to the Council within the previous year, not later than three (3) weeks before camp. Leave the top section (requestor information) blank for the Council to complete.
• Additional forms (e.g., CIT application) are available on the Mohegan Council website.

Troop 54 holds a Summer Camp Prep Meeting before camp. This year's meeting will be held Tuesday, June 28, at 7:00 PM.

The 2011 TVSR Program Schedule lists the camp-provided merit badge classes and other key activity times. The estimated cost to take each badge is listed in the Camp Guide. For additional badges offered during specific weeks, see the Boy Scout Camp page on the Mohegan Council website, under Treasure Valley. Each Scout should look at these in advance of camp to start planning a great week.

Following the camp rules, we have to arrive together (all scouts) at 11:30 AM on Sunday, July 10. We will meet at the church at 10:30 AM and drive to Treasure Valley together. Campers should bring lunches for that one day.

A camp-wide dinner, troop Court of Honor, camp-wide closing ceremony, and camp-wide closing campfire are held on Friday evening at the end of camp. Families are welcome at all of these events. The troop pays for the dinner (up to three members of any family), but we will need to know on July 10 how many members of each family plan to atend.

Other Weeks

The Mohegan Council offers Boy Scout Summer Camp for six weeks (Troop 54 is attending camp the second of these). If you can't attend with Troop 54 or if one week is not enough for you, you might consider attending camp one or more other weeks as a provisional camper.

• Provisional Resident Camp - You will camp with one of the troops that is attending camp the week you pick. The programs are the same; you will just have different buddies and leaders.
• Provisional Day Camp - You will get dropped off and picked up at camp each day (Monday - Friday) for the same day time programs. You will only have lunch at camp.

You can sign up for Provisional during Weeks 1, 3, 4, or 5, or you can sign up for Eagle Week during Week 5. More information is available on the Mohegan Council web page, under Treasure Valley / Summer Camp / Boy Scout Camp.

Order of the Arrow members can sign up for Adventure Treasure Valley during Week 5.

Having one of your friends at camp can be important to some boys. If this is the case, you might be able to find someone else in the troop who wants to join you in this separate adventure.

Other Camps

Other councils offer Boy Scout Summer Camp. You can find one (probably several) in any state to attend as a provisional resident camper. A couple of examples in our region:

• Camp Squanto - Located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, this 650 acre camp is operated by the Old Colony Council (about 1.5 hours from Worcester). Our Scoutmaster and at least one Scout will attend this camp July 24 - 30.
• Yawgoog - Located in Rockville, Rhode Island, this 1700 acre camp is operated by the Narragansett Council (about 1.25 hours from Worcester).
