Deerfield River Rafting Trip

Event Description

4/29/26 Update: There were no registrations by the due date, so this trip is cancelled.

Troop 54 will go rafting on the Deerfield River with Zoar Outdoor. We will camp in Mohawk Trail State Forest in Charlemont.

During the day on Saturday, we will go on the Monroe Bridge Dryway rafting trip. This trip has up to Class IV white water and has a minimum age of 14.

This trip is open to Scouts BSA members.

Registration

• Permission Slip - Each participating Scout must submit this to the Scoutmaster by April 28.
• Event registration fee - pay by April 28 (includes food):
     Youth or Adult - $150 (online payment)
• Online Waiver - A link will be added to the Zoar waiver after April 28.
• Annual Health and Medical Record - Each participant must have submitted this record within the previous year and no later than April 28. This trip requires only Parts A and B, including copy of insurance card (both sides). A medical exam is not required.
• Adults - In accordance with a BSA rule that became effective September 1, 2023, "All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered in an adult fee required position as listed or as an adult program participant."

Packing

Use our Personal Camping List to ensure you pack the needed items and see our Personal Camping Gear page for descriptions of most of the items needed and for how to use the checklist. You can pack your stuff in a backpack (the big kind), a duffle bag or a tub. Specific items to bring:

• Water bottles (2)
• Full uniform (as for just about any event) - wear this.
• Day pack
• Food - Each patrol should plan to provide 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner. Zoar will provide a snack during and a meal after the rafting trip. Participants bring your own drinks and food for additoinal snacks.

Also, see the What to Bring section of Zoar's Dryway Rafting page. Due to the time of year, wet suits will be provided by Zoar at no extra charge.

Travel

• Meet at the Epworth United Methodist Church parking lot at 6:30 PM Friday for departure by 6:45 PM.
• Travel to Mohawk Trail State Forest (the camping location) is estimated at 1-3/4 hours.
• On Saturday, travel from the camping area to Zoar Outdoor is estimated at 10 minutes.
• Estimated return to Epworth is 11:45 AM Sunday (+/- 1 hr). We will call parents with an updated arrival time estimate after we depart the campground.
