Event Description
This month, we will bicycle on a section of the Air Line Trail. We will cycle about 10 miles from Pomfret Station to Goodwin State Forest, where we will camp.
Our time at Goodwin will be spent on advancement, day hikes and possibly additional bicycling.
This trip is open to Scouts BSA members.
Participants will attend a planning meeting at Epworth on August 19, 2025, 7:00-8:30 PM.
Registration
- Permission Slip - Each participating Scout
must submit this to the Scoutmaster by August 16.
- Event registration fee - pay by August 16 (includes food for youth only):
Youth - $36online payment)
Adult - $11 (online payment)
- Annual Health and Medical Record - Each participant must have submitted this record within the previous year
and no later than August 16. This trip requires only Parts A and B, including copy of insurance card (both sides). A medical exam is not required.
- Adults - In accordance with a BSA rule that became effective September 1, 2023,
"All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered in an adult fee required position as listed or as an adult program participant."
Packing
The camping will be done backpacking style. Use our Backwoods Camping List to ensure you pack the needed items and see our Personal Camping Gear page for descriptions of most of the items needed and for how to use the checklist. You will pack your stuff in whatever you can carry while riding your bicycle; this can be bicycle panniers, a backpack (the big kind) or a trailer. Specific items to bring:
- Water bottles (2)
- Full uniform (as for just about any event) - bring this, unless you prefer to wear it while bicycling.
- Food - Each patrol should plan to provide 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 2 dinners. Participants bring
your own drinks and food for snacks.
- Bicycle with helmet.
Travel
Travel information will be posted soon. We will meet at the church at 1 PM on Friday.
- Meet at the Epworth United Methodist Church parking lot at 1:00 PM on Friday for departure by 1:30 PM. It may take some time to gather gear and to stow bicycles in a truck.
- Travel to the
trailhead
is approximately 1 hour.
- Estimated return to the church is 3:00 PM Sunday.
