Deer Lake Fishing DerbyFriday, April 10 - |
We returned to Deer Lake Outdoor Center for our first time since 2017. Since our last visit, the camp has changed from a Scout camp to a Pathfinders camp. We were in the Pines 1 site, right next to the parking lot and just across a field from the nearest water. We had 3 Scouts and 2 leaders on this trip. In the morning on Saturday, the Scouts participated in the fishing derby. Unlike other fishing locations this one prohibited releasing caught fish instead of requiring release. It looked like there were over a hundred participants, and although we heard that a least a couple caught fish, our Scouts didn;t have any luck. In the afternoon on Saturday, we went on a hike around the camp. The Scouts breaded and fried chicken for dinner. The weather was a relatively comfortable temperature, but it was very windy. In fact, that Saturday, the state of Connecticut issued a fire ban due to the wind. One of our tents and one of our pop-up canopies blew over. After that, we put away the canopies to avoid further damage. |
