Wendell State Forest Backpacking TripSaturday, November 7 - |
Troop 54 headed west again, this time making our first trip in Wendell State Forest. Nine Scouts and four leaders made this trip. We hiked north about six miles on the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail to Ruggles Pond. What had been expected to be our winter campout featured weather so warm that we did not even need jackets while hiking. The sky was clear all weekend, allowing some star gazing in the evening. Our camp cooking ranged from just-add-water items to canned meals to a lightweight cooked meal complete with a pudding pie dessert. The hike out, continuing north, was about five miles. ASM Keevan did a great job identifying this location. See our actual trail (GPS data recorded by Keith MacNeal): Trimble Outdoors - map and notes uploaded by Keith MacNeal |

Narrative originally posted on Trimble Outdoors by Keith MacNeal: Day 1 we hiked from the Leverett Co-Op to an Adirondock Shelter at Ruggles Pond Recreation Area. Day 2 we hiked out. There are two scenic overlooks along the way. |
