Bicycling

Plan outings to satisfy requirements for Cycling merit badge or create a camping adventure on wheels. Decide whether the trip will be a road bicycling or mountain bicycling trip and take it from there. The following are some of the bicycle trails in New York and New England.

Bike Trails in Massachusetts

Mass Trail Tracker - Interactive map shows lots of trails across Massachusetts, including such information as surface type, length construction status and plans.

Some of the best trails for bicycling in the State:

• Blackstone River Greenway/Bikeway - Paved
• Mass Central Rail Trail - Unpaved
• Cape Cod Rail Trail - 25 miles of paved trail.
• Southern New England Trunkline Trail - Unpaved
• Old Colony Rail Trail
• Charles River in Boston and Cambridge, MA
• Province Lands Bike Trail - Provincetown on Cape Cod - 5.5 mile loop - sand and water can get on the trail.
• Minuteman Bikeway

Bike Trails in Rhode Island

• East Bay Bike Path - 14 miles in RI from East Providence to Bristol

Bike Trails in Connecticut

• Air Line Trail - 50 miles of unpaved rail trail.

Bike Trails in New York

• Keuka Lake Outlet Trail - 7 miles from Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake in NY - waterfalls
• Old Croton Aqueduct from Portland to NYC in NY - mountain bike suggested for portions
• Hudson River Greenway - along the Hudson River in Manhattan - starts at Inwood Hill with gap below GW Bridge

Bike Trails in Vermont

• Island Line Trail - on Lake Champlain in VT - seasonal bike ferry to cross the one break
